Reno Omokri Shares Email Allegedly Proving Peter Obi Lobbied to Be Atiku’s Running Mate
Political commentator and former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has released purported evidence to support his claim that he facilitated Peter Obi’s emergence as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate during the 2018 general election in Nigeria.
The controversy arose following Omokri’s appearance on the Reno Omokri Unfiltered Podcast with The Honest Bunch, where he criticized the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alleging that Obi actively lobbied to become Atiku’s running mate in 2018.
Omokri’s remarks sparked widespread backlash from Nigerians, particularly supporters of Peter Obi, who accused him of fabricating stories.
In response, Reno Omokri recently shared a screenshot of an email on his X page (formerly Twitter), a résumé allegedly sent by Peter Obi at 6:13 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018, just days before Atiku officially announced Obi as his running mate on Friday, October 12, 2018.
The email reads:
“My dear brother Reno,
I hope and pray you and your family are keeping well.
Thanks for all your support to — and your commitment to building a better Nigeria.
I have been directed by our Oga — to send my resume to you, kindly find attached.
I tried calling you earlier but to no avail. I can be reached on [Displayed Whatsapp number].
Thanks and God bless you!
Best regards,
Peter Obi.”
According to Omokri, he released the evidence to prove his podcast statements after a critic, whom he described as a “Peter Obi surrogate,” called him a liar.
Omokri further challenged Peter Obi to refute the evidence if he considers the email fake or AI-generated, adding that he would be “tempted to publish even more damning evidence,” though he claimed he did not wish to do so.
The reference in the email to “our Oga” has raised further questions among Nigerians about the possible involvement of an undisclosed influential figure in the People’s Democratic Party’s selection of Atiku’s running mate in 2018.
As of now, Peter Obi has remained silent on the matter, and many Nigerians are still waiting for him to respond to Reno Omokri’s claims.
