Ballon d’Or Can Wait, I’m Focused On Winning With Barcelona And Spain – Yamal

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has said that he is not thinking about winning the Ballon d’Or.

He recently revealed that players who regularly think about winning such a prestigious award always end up getting distracted.

Speaking to El Partizado de COPE, Yamal shared that he is more focused on playing his football and winning matches for Barcelona and Spain.

Lamine stated that if he wins the UCL title and the World Cup next year, maybe he’ll start to dream that far, but until then, he’ll keep doing his bit on the pitch to help his teams.

“I don’t think about it. You’ll be in trouble if you think about winning the Ballon d’Or. You think about playing, winning, and it will come.

If I win the Champions League and the World Cup next year, it will come. It’s about enjoying it and letting it come when it has to,” he said.

Despite not clocking 18 yet, Yamal played a massive role in Barcelona winning the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España domestic treble in the 2024-25 season.

His 43 combined goals and assists, all-round starring role, and amazing dribbling ability have made the youngster a credible candidate for the next Ballon d’Or award.

However, he faces tough competition from his club team-mate Raphinha, Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah and Paris Saint-Germain talisman Ousmane Dembele to clinch the prestigious prize.

Ronaldo Nazario remains the youngest ever Ballon d’Or winner to date. He was 21 years and three months when he was named the World Best player in 1997. If Yamal ends up winning the Ballon d’Or award before 2029, he’ll break that record.
