Reno Omokri denies being paid to support Tinubu

Socio-political commentator and former presidential aide Reno Omokri has firmly denied allegations that his public support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration is financially motivated, insisting that his advocacy is rooted in patriotism and a deep love for Nigeria.

Omokri, who has gained a reputation for his sharp criticism of opposition figures, particularly the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, addressed the claims during an appearance on Channels Television on Wednesday.

He clarified that his consistent backing of Tinubu’s policies does not stem from any financial arrangement with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“So who was paying me between 2025 and 2023 when I was traveling over on matters concerning Nigeria?” he asked.

According to Omokri, his motivation is not loyalty to any political party or personal gain, but a sense of national duty.

“Why would anyone give me money? I’m doing this not just for the love I have for Tinubu but the love I have for Nigeria,” he said.

Citing a recent example, Omokri revealed he financed a fact-finding trip to Lagos to investigate claims about the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project.

“Right now, I’m in Lagos and I don’t live here. I came to Lagos because people have spread wrong information about the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. I bought a ticket with my own money, then I came and gathered journalists. I also gathered members of the public, ordinary Nigerians. I bought a drone with my own money to verify that indeed the 30-kilometer highway is complete,” he explained.
